I enrolled in the five-week course knowing almost nothing about how market information is written. By week three I was reading financial news columns and actually understanding what the sentences were getting at, even when I disagreed with the commentary. The facilitator was patient and consistently clear about the line between explaining a concept and giving an opinion on it.

I came to the Primer session mainly because a colleague mentioned it. It was one session and I was a bit sceptical about how much could be covered in a few hours. In practice, the glossary and concept map alone were worth the fee to me — I have kept the concept map on my desk since. The session itself was unhurried. I have recommended it to two people since attending.

The Complete Programme is the most thorough. I appreciated that every session was careful to frame things as descriptions of general concepts rather than directions. The group Q&A sessions over the three months after were genuinely useful — a good place to bring questions about things I had read rather than a place to get tips. That distinction matters to me.

I have a passing familiarity with markets from reading business news, but a lot of the vocabulary was blurry for me. The five-week course clarified the terminology considerably. What stood out was that at no point was anyone nudged toward a position on what to do. It stayed firmly on the side of reading and understanding rather than acting.

The printed reference has become something I consult fairly regularly when reading company announcements. I did wonder before attending whether the session would veer into advice territory — it did not. The facilitator was quite explicit about that on several occasions, which I found reassuring rather than unnecessary. The location in Jalan Ampang was very convenient for me.

I attended the Complete Programme over several months. The structure was sensible and the progression between sessions felt natural. One thing I would flag is that the group Q&A sessions work best when you come with specific questions from your own reading rather than expecting general discussion. That said, the facilitators managed the scope well. A worthwhile investment in vocabulary.

Market Vocabulary Primer, then 5-Week Course
Starting Point
Reading financial news but finding the vocabulary opaque. Terms like "yield", "spread" and "index-linked" appeared regularly without any clear sense of what they actually described.
What She Attended
Began with the Primer session to get oriented, then enrolled in the five-week course the following month to build on the vocabulary more systematically.
How Things Changed
Now reads market commentary with considerably more ease and a clearer sense of when a term is being used descriptively versus when it is being used persuasively.

Starting Point
Some exposure to market concepts from a previous short course, but felt the previous material had been delivered with an implicit commercial agenda. Wanted something strictly educational.

How Things Changed
