About Centavo
A Reading Room for Market Concepts
Centavo was founded on a simple observation: many people encounter market information every day but lack the vocabulary to read it with any confidence. We built a place to change that — calmly, without pressure.
Back to HomeOur Story
Where Centavo Began
Centavo was established in Kuala Lumpur by a small group of educators and long-time readers of financial publications who noticed a recurring gap. Colleagues, friends and family would ask basic questions about terms they had encountered — words like "yield", "index", "volatility" — and there was nowhere calm and unhurried to explore them.
The founders did not come from a background of trading or brokerage. They came from adult education and from a conviction that understanding language is the first step toward forming your own considered view of any subject. Markets are no different.
We chose the name Centavo as a nod to the smallest unit of value — a reminder that building knowledge starts with the most elementary pieces and that there is no shame in beginning there.
Our Mission
What We Are Here to Do
Centavo's mission is to provide general education on stock market vocabulary and concepts to adults in Malaysia who want to read and understand market information more comfortably.
We are not a brokerage. We do not manage money. We do not advise on investments. Our role is strictly educational: to explain terms, describe concepts and help participants read market information with a more critical and informed eye.
Everything Centavo delivers is general education. Participants are encouraged to consult a licensed financial professional for any personal financial decisions.
What We Stand For
Our Core Values
Calm Clarity
We present market vocabulary without hype, urgency or drama. The subject is serious; the tone stays measured.
Education First
Every session is designed to inform, not to persuade. We draw a clear line between explaining what a concept means and suggesting what you should do about it.
Respect for the Reader
We treat participants as capable adults who can form their own views when given good information and the space to think.

How We Work
Our Approach to Quality
Every aspect of our delivery is shaped by a consistent set of principles that protect participants and uphold our educational purpose.
Strict Non-Advisory Boundary
We maintain a firm distinction between explaining market concepts and offering any form of recommendation. This boundary is reviewed in every session plan.
Reviewed Curriculum
All programme content is reviewed before each cohort to ensure it reflects current general descriptions without introducing time-sensitive or speculative elements.
Data Privacy
Participant information is held securely, used only for session administration, and never shared with third parties without consent. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Participant Feedback Loop
We collect written feedback after every session and use it to refine clarity, pacing and materials in the following cohort.
Accessible Delivery
Sessions are conducted in plain English with printed materials provided. Group sizes are kept small to allow comfortable participation at every level of prior knowledge.
Professionally Located
Centavo operates from professional premises at Menara Public Bank in Kuala Lumpur — a setting that reflects the serious, respectful tone we bring to all our programmes.
Understanding Our Work
General Market Education in Malaysia
Stock market terminology appears widely in Malaysian business news, corporate announcements and everyday conversation — yet there are relatively few resources that explain these terms in a neutral, educational context without simultaneously pushing a view on what readers ought to do with that knowledge.
Centavo addresses this by treating market vocabulary as a subject of study in its own right. Participants learn what words and phrases mean, how information is typically structured and presented, and what questions a careful reader might ask when they encounter a market-related headline or report.
The approach draws on methods from adult literacy and professional communication education. Rather than simulating trading or constructing model portfolios, sessions focus on language — the definitions, the context, the conventions and the caveats that shape how market information is written and read.
Programmes are offered at a range of depths, from a single introductory session for those entirely new to the vocabulary, through to a comprehensive multi-session programme for those who want a thorough conceptual grounding. All programmes include written materials for reference beyond the session itself.
Centavo operates from Kuala Lumpur and delivers in English. All educational content is general in nature, describes markets as a topic of study, and does not constitute financial advice or recommendations of any kind.
